Before installation, ask your electricity retailer whether a smart meter is required, what charges apply and how it may change your tariff or billing. Check that your contact details, solar or battery information and current meter reading are correct, and arrange safe access to the meter box. Ask how usage data will be collected, who can access it and when your first smart-meter bill is expected. After installation, check the meter and bill details, and contact your retailer or a licensed electrician if anything appears incorrect or unsafe.
