An energy retailer sells electricity or gas plans, sends your bills, manages payments and customer service, and arranges the energy supply to your address. A distributor owns and maintains the poles, wires, meters or gas pipes and generally responds to faults; you usually cannot choose your distributor. You can compare retailers and plans through Energy Made Easy, or Victorian Energy Compare if you live in Victoria. Check rates, discounts, contract terms, exit fees and solar feed-in rates before switching, and ask the retailer how your circumstances may affect available plans.
