What is the Default Market Offer and how can I use it to compare electricity plans?

A WattWise Team Answered by

The Default Market Offer (DMO) is a government-set reference price for electricity in parts of the Australian National Electricity Market, including NSW, South Australia and south-east Queensland. Retailers use it to show whether a plan is cheaper or more expensive than the reference price, often as a percentage or annual estimate. It is not necessarily the lowest available price, so compare the supply charge, usage rates, discounts and estimated cost for your household. Check your retailer’s offer and the government-backed Energy Made Easy comparison service, noting that Victoria has a separate Victorian Default Offer.
